MULTISTATE BAR EXAM (MBE)

The Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) is a six-hour, 200-question multiple-choice examination developed by the National Conference of Bar Examiners.

The exam is divided into two three-hour sessions, with 100 questions in the morning and 100 questions in the afternoon.

​

Of the 200 questions, 175 are scored and 25 are unscored pretest questions. You will not know which questions are unscored, so every question should be treated as though it counts.

The MBE tests seven subjects:

• Civil Procedure

• Constitutional Law

• Contracts

• Criminal Law and Procedure

• Evidence

• Real Property

• Torts

The 175 scored questions are distributed evenly among the seven subjects, with 25 scored questions from each subject area.

Success on the MBE requires much more than memorizing black-letter law. The questions are designed to test whether you can identify the legal issue hidden within a fact pattern, determine which facts matter, apply the correct rule, and distinguish the best answer from other choices that may initially appear correct.

That is why our MBE tutoring focuses heavily on how you approach the questions. We work through why the correct answer is correct, why the other choices are wrong, what rule the examiners are testing, and whether there are patterns in the types of questions you are missing.

Our goal is not simply to have you complete more questions. It is to help you become a better MBE test taker so that the lessons from one question carry over to the next.
